PG County ProclamationOur History

The Allentown Parks and Recreation Council is one of the oldest recreation councils in Prince George’s County. The Council was organized on June 3, 1958 at the charter meeting, which was held at Tayac Elementary School. Donald Greenawalt was the first President of the Council.

The Council has been an outstanding organization serving the Allentown communities and other County entities for over 50 years.

The Council is composed of people interested, first and foremost, in providing recreational opportunities with representatives from PTAs, civic and social service associations, boys and girls clubs, track clubs, and church organizations.

Your affiliation with our organization will give you access to a number of Maryland National Capital Park and Planning resources, keep you abreast of what is happening in Southern Prince George’s County and give you an active voice in the Allentown Community.

Mission Statement Surratt Society Letter

The Allentown Parks and Recreation Council is the voice of the community in recreational matters. The Council works closely with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and local public schools. The Council sponsors a wide variety of recreational and educational activities.

The Allentown Parks and Recreation Council has had a distinguished past in providing Services to the People of the community, however, its members are not content with past performances.

The Council continues to move forward in a changing community. In order to do this, we need you and your voice to make it happen.
